How can students practice for the competition?
Students can practice for the written competition using AP Economics level questions. For the presentation, teams may practice beforehand because presentations are pre-prepared before the competition. For the stock pitch, we encourage teams to practice by choosing a stock and practice making a presentation.
How will the competition take place this year?
This year’s competition will be completely virtual. Students will compete over zoom and will need a zoom account to be able to access our content. Technical difficulties will arise because of this format and will be handled in as fair a manner as possible by the event organizers. To ensure cheating does not occur, we have written questions to be difficult to find direct answers to online, and have given explicit access to the internet in sections of the competition.
My school does not have an economics class or I haven't taken it, can I still compete?
Short answer, YES! Students are required to find a faculty sponsor at the school, so we highly recommend a teacher you trust and who can dedicate some time to helping you. They do not need economics/business experience although that can be helpful. While many of our students will have taken an economics course, the case presentation and stock pitch are designed for students regardless of economic course level. The written exam is based on AP Economics level questions, however have no direct relation to the exam.
Where are the grading rubrics and examples for the competition?
The rubrics and examples will be published on this website soon so please check back for samples. Currently, the stock pitch rubric and example are available.
What prizes will be awarded to winning teams?
All students on winning teams will be shipped UChicago gear. The winners of the Brattle Economic Case Competition will receive $400 given to their high school. The winners of Written Competition and the Stock Pitch Competition will be given special access to events from the Economic Club of Chicago with the CEO's of Target and Citibank.
