About
The Annual DSP UCBE Competition allows students who are passionate about business and economics to challenge themselves in a premier competition with like-minded students. Students of all abilities are welcome to participate, though some knowledge of business and economics will be helpful. The competition is designed so that even students not currently enrolled in a course such as AP Micro/Macro economics can learn and compete, especially in the presentation and stock pitch, because the competition is also designed as a learning process experience. Students will be given examples of how to present a case competition, write up a stock pitch, and be given examples of written questions. Throughout the competition, students will also be given the opportunity to learn from our guest speakers and have a Q&A with college students to ask questions about anything college related. Our goal is to create a learning space that is both competitive and fun, so that students can share their passions for business and economics with us.

Format
The UCBE Competition will consist of 3 team-based competitions testing both business and economic knowledge.
Brattle Economic Case Presentation:
Each team will present their solution to a pre-selected economic case study. Teams will be given 8-10 minutes to present, and additional time for judges to ask questions about the presentations. A set rubric will be used by collegiate judges and each score will be averaged for the team’s presentation score. Presentation times will vary and will be randomly selected. When teams are not presenting, they will be working on the stock pitch. These presentations will need to be prepared before the event, and the topic is posted on the Brattle Case Competition page.
Stock Pitch Competition:
The Stock Pitch Competition puts participants in the shoes of a Wall Street equity research analyst. Working with the same team from your high school for the rest of the competition, you will be tasked with analyzing one company and pitching a BUY, SELL, or HOLD recommendation on its stock. You will be given a list of about 3 companies on the day of the competition, from which you would choose one company to research on and write a 2 page investment report. Investment reports will be judged primarily on the strength of the argument and the depth of research, as detailed in the rubrics.
Team Written Questions:
Questions will be released and students will be given about 50 minutes to solve the questions as a team. Questions will be graded based on work/correctness, so students should attempt each problem. Students can discuss with each other and use the whiteboard feature on zoom to share ideas, but ultimately work for problems must be submitted using a picture of written work or preferably, typed. Students may split the work by each writing half a problem, however it is their responsibility to ensure all work is submitted.
Submissions will be done via a google form, so individual questions can be submitted separately, however if students combine work for one question, they must send those pictures or text to one team member to submit. Each google form will have space for the team name, final answer, and a text/picture submission of work. Please do NOT use the internet for this portion of the competition.
